Shatta Wale in Hot Water: EOCO Detains Star Over Lamborghini Urus.

Popular Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, was detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

This development follows an investigation into a Lamborghini Urus that was in possession of Shatta Wale and believed to be part of the proceeds from a $4 million fraud scheme allegedly orchestrated by Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States on fraud-related charges.

According to a press release by EOCO, Shatta Wale has indicated that he purchased the Lamborghini Urus from the “Street” for a sum of $150,000 from an unidentified party that goes by the name or alias “ZAK” and that the unidentified seller contacted him via WhatsApp.

As of this writing, Shatta Wale has been granted bail set at GHS 10,000,000 with two sureties. According to the latest information from the artist’s camp, his legal counsel is actively working to meet the bail conditions to secure his release.

This investigation comes amid a recent surge in the importation and sale of stolen vehicles from the United States and Canada into West African countries, including Ghana.

The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice have traced several of these allegedly stolen vehicles, along with proceeds from fraudulent activities, to Ghana. In response, they have launched a wide-scale investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending the individuals behind the operation.
