Meet The Kia Syros: Could This High-Tech Small SUV Make Its Way To The Ghanaian Market?

The Korean Manufacturer Kia has yet again stun audience with the release of the all-new Kia Syros in India. The Syros follows Kia’s massive Tasman pickup truck debut a few months ago. The Syros, a small urban crossover SUV that’s cute in a rugged way promises to wow tech-savvy adventurers both in the city and urban environments.

The Syros, with its compact 2,550mm wheelbase, appears perfectly suited for Ghanaian roads. As Kia Ghana continues to expand its offerings, the Syros built on the widely acclaimed Hyundai Kia K1 platform, which also supports models like the Hyundai Grand i10 sedan, Hyundai Casper, and Exeter emerges as an excellent choice for a small, efficient vehicle tailored to the needs of Ghanaians.

FORM AND FUNCTION IN A TINY PACKAGE

Exterior design of the Kia Syros is reminiscent of the proportions of its brand cousin the Hyundai Casper. The boxy shape of the Syros has become a placeholder for most cars built on the K1 platform, this unconventional style makes room for higher ground clearance and greater design freedom that designers have explore with the Syros.

Up-front, the Syros sports a flat bonnet with Kia lettering, edge mounted Kia signature starmap LED headlights and a large front bumper with contrasting lower front splitter.  The side of the Syros remains traditional with a new flushed streamline door handles and contrasting lower side panel. At the rear, the Syros sports vertical edge breaklights reminiscent of the Kia Soul and clear class reverse lights. The Syros styling is bound to be polarizing, but to us, it’s undeniably unique and we love that.

Syros Powertrain: Efficient and Versatile for Ghanaian Roads

When it comes to performance, the Syros offers two solid engine options, a 1.0-liter Smartstream turbo petrol producing 88.3 kW (120 PS) and 172 Nm of torque, and a 1.5-liter CRDi diesel delivering 85 kW (116 PS) and 250 Nm of torque. Both engines are available with manual and automatic transmissions, catering to different driving preferences.

In Ghana, where fuel efficiency and durability are key considerations, the Syros’ powertrain stands out. The turbo petrol option provides a balance of power and efficiency, making it ideal for urban commuting, while the diesel variant offers strong low-end torque, perfect for tackling highways and rougher rural roads.

When on sale, the Syros is expected to cost an estimated 16.50 Lakh in India. If our calculation is correct that converts to roughly 292,000 Ghanaian cedis, a fare price for what will undoubtedly be a fantastic car. We hope the Syros makes it to Ghana but until hope becomes reality, we wait. Your Move Kia Ghana.
