Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giants has been on roll since the release of their first production electric vehicle, the SU7. Now the company is taking aim at the Tesla Model Y with their latest production SUV called the YU7.
Ahead of its scheduled June debut, the company CEO Lei Jun released images of the YU7 SUV on social media platform X and the design has got many talking. The YU7 has some resemblance to the Porsche Macan electric and the Aston Martin DBX SUVs whiles remaining recognizable as a Xiaomi by the company’s dual faced headlight design.
Design Inspiration: A Blend of Porsche, Ferrari, and Aston Martin
Up front the YU7 hood resembles that of the Ferrari Purosangue and Porsche Macan electric SUV with a dipped shape characteristics and pronounced front arches. The YU7’s daytime running lights in the shape of a side leaning cross is also reminiscent of the Ferrari.
The backend of the YU7 features an arc shape taillight similar to the SU7 electric sedan. The roof smoothly slopes down toward the rear in a single, continuous curve, characteristic of fastback design seen on the Aston Martin DBX. A rear rooftop mounted and ducktail-style spoiler completes the YU7 sporty design.
Performance Expectations: 681 HP Dual-Motor Powertrain
Considering the Xiaomi SU7 electric powertrain, it is expected that the YU7 will boost some pretty impressive numbers. However, Xiaomi has yet to release figures for this vehicle and all we have to go n is data from Chinese sources. According to the Chinese auto news platform, CarNewsChina, the YU7 will be powered by dual electric motors producing a whooping 681 hp and an estimated topspeed of 253km/h.
Split between the front and rear, the front motors are expected to produce 295 hp wile the rear produce 386 hp. Curb weight for the YU7 is expected to be 2,405 kg, similar to the Porsche Macan electric and slightly lighter than the Kia EV6 dual motor variant.
Although details about the battery capacity are currently unavailable, the SU7 sedan offers 73.6-kWh and 94.3-kWh battery options. It’s anticipated that Xiaomi could introduce higher-capacity batteries by 2025, with the YU7 likely benefiting from these upgrades.
