2025 Ford Expedition Redesign: Luxury Meets Performance

2025 Ford Expedition Redesign: Luxury Meets Performance

It’s already that time again, when we take a look at the newest redesigns before 2024 comes to a close. The Ford Expedition gets a full redesign for the 5th generation, according to Ford; the new model is geared toward creating unique family experiences.

The new Expedition comes with a host of new tricks and components under its big long sleeves. One of the most notable updates is the introduction of the Tremor trim, which replaces the previous off-road-focused Timberline trim, although we are yet to see how it holds up off road with all that weight.

Interior Changes and Comfort

Ford has made subtle yet critical changes to the interior of the Expedition for added luxury and comfort starting with massaging seats and leather upholstery for the top of the line Platinum trim. Those on a little smaller budget best stick with the entry level Active model as its perfectly equipped with onboard Wi-Fi, power adjustable center console, a 24-inch driver display screen replacing the traditional instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch center mounted display for navigation.

To make life easier for families packing a load, the third row bench seats fold in a 40/20/40 configuration allowing for flexible seating and added trunk space. If a blend of luxury and space is what you desire, best to spec your expedition with the optional captain second row seat or go with the Expedition Max long wheelbase variant.

Big Girl can Move, Engine and Performance

With an expected curb weight of 5837 lb. (2648 kg), the all-new 2025 Expedition is no light weight. Nonetheless, Ford’s trusty twin-turbo charged Eco-boost V-6 engine packs 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque on all trims except the Tremor which packs a more potent 440 horsepower and 510 pounds-feet of torque available as an option on the Platinum trim.

Power from the engine meets the road via a 10-speed automatic transmission that pairs with rear- or four-wheel drive. The combination of the 3.5 liter V-6 engine and the 10-speed transmission give the Expedition a respected 7,000-pound towing capacity without the need for a load-leveling bar and 9,600-pound max towing capacity with a weight distributing hitch.

  • Engine: 3.5 liter twin turbo V-6
  • Power: 400 hp / 440 hp
  • Torque: 480 ib / 510 ib
  • Towing capacity: 9600 pounds

Exterior Design Changes

Whiles the redesign of the Expedition is definitely notable, it’s not what I will call revolutionary. The newly design front fascia sports dual lights lens on each side surrounded by a C-shaped daytime running lights running across the lower part of the grille. The grille maintains the hexagonal cut-outs only bigger in size compared to the outgoing model.

The most striking trim for 2025 goes to the Tremor thanks in part to the rugged 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires, an embedded off-road auxiliary lights behind the grille, skid plates and underbody protection for the front drive components. A reworked suspension give the Tremor 10.6-inch ground clearance for better off road maneuverability, and how could I forget, the yellow contracting front tow-points, rim accents and lower front fog lights housing.

The all new Expedition is expected to arrive at dealerships in March 2025 at an expected starting price of over $62,000.
